A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.

While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a second term in office.

“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The animal, donated by a local firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six-seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The trend became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
