American Military Conducts Lethal Attack in Pacific, Resulting in 4 Deaths

As stated by a senior defense official, the American armed forces executed a lethal strike on a boat in the eastern Pacific, killing four people.

“Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a deadly attack on a vessel linked to a Designated Terrorist Organization in open sea. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was traveling along a known narco-trafficking route and was engaged in illicit drug transport. A total of four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no American forces were injured.”

Context and Recent Actions

This announcement comes a day after a declaration regarding a blockade of all targeted oil tankers to and from Venezuela. That statement on social media, the American leader alleged Venezuela of using oil profits to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, pledging to increase the military buildup.

Only on Tuesday, US defense officials stated it had conducted strikes on three boats it accused of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Since 2 September, over 20 military engagements have killed at least 99 people, most off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Justifies Tactics Amidst Scrutiny

The government has faced growing demands to make public video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, officials have refused to do so. The administration has defended its efforts as a successful operation, arguing it has stopped drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the limits of lawful warfare.

Although the administration has stated the operation is about stopping drugs headed to the US, comments from a top official appeared to confirm a wider political objective. In a recent interview, the chief of staff remarked the leader “aims to keep on destroying vessels until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”

This indicates the series of strikes may be linked to a strategy to remove Venezuela's current leadership.
