Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes several notable changes:

  • Each team includes only eight human participants, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by real players award full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives more options for players seeking alternative ways to enjoy the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 fans are upset.

Community Responses: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while another lists everything they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Player Feedback

All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base compromising in the middle, as per forum feedback. A different user describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
