Blasts and Low-Altitude Planes Witnessed in Venezuelan Capital City Caracas

Reports surfaced of several detonations and the roar of low-flying planes in Caracas in the small hours of the weekend. This situation has prompted claims from Venezuela's authorities and requests for global scrutiny.

Caracas Condemns US of Military Action

The socialist administration has blamed the United States of an act of "foreign aggression," stating that ex- President Trump supposedly authorized strikes against the Latin American country. In an public statement, the authorities confirmed that attacks had targeted the capital and several other regions: Miranda, La Guaira state, and Aragua state.

"Our only objective of this attack is to gain control of Venezuela's natural resources, in particular its petroleum and mineral wealth," Venezuela said.

Venezuelan officials urged the global community to censure the strikes, which it labeled a "clear infringement of international law" that put countless of lives at risk in jeopardy.

Accounts of Blasts and Defense Sites Hit

Eyewitnesses reported experiencing approximately seven detonations around 2 a.m. in the morning. Residents in different districts reportedly hurried into the streets outside.

"The whole ground shook. This is horrible. We heard explosions and jets in the area," stated one resident.

Smoke was observed billowing from key defense sites in Caracas: the La Carlota air base and the Fuerte Tiuna military base, where president Maduro is believed to have a residence.

Global Reaction

The president of neighboring Colombia, Gustavo Petro, claimed on a social platform that "Currently they are striking Venezuela... attacking it with missiles." He demanded an swift emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.

Colombia, which recently joined the UNSC, announced it would initiate defense plans at its shared border with Venezuela.

Preceding Events

The reported strikes are preceded by a extended military buildup by the United States against the Maduro administration. Since last summer, there has been a significant naval presence off the country's Caribbean coast and a number of strikes on boats suspected of narco-trafficking.

The administration has declared "the implementation of emergency" and ordered all defense protocols to be initiated. It has also urged its supporters to mobilize and "repudiate this imperialist act."

The White House and the Pentagon did not immediately addressed requests for comment regarding the allegations.
