British Designer Antony Price, Celebrated for Creating Looks for Iconic Acts Like Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.

Antony Price, the influential UK-based designer who crafted a series of unforgettable images associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.

His reputation was built on his architectural shapes and theatrical styles, including the light-hued ensembles that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

Price's death comes just weeks after he unveiled his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "dress" once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Pioneering Career

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from model Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting sculptural silhouettes made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," according to the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he started creating outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, such as various looks for her American tour following her marriage.

After a career spanning over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
