Democratic lawmakers Denounce Trump After He Claims They Should Face Execution

Lawmakers from the Democratic party expressed anger after Donald Trump accused a group of Democratic representatives of being "turncoats" and stated they should be taken into custody and punished "with execution" following their posting of a controversial video.

The Message That Provoked the Debate

The recorded message, published on Tuesday, includes six Democratic congress members who in the past acted in defense or intelligence roles.

"Like us, you all took an oath to defend and defend this founding document," the lawmakers stated in the 90-second video. "At present, the risks to our constitution don't only come from overseas, but from right here at home. Our statutes are unambiguous, you can decline unlawful commands, you can reject improper directives, you have to decline illegal orders. No one has to execute commands that break the statutes or our national charter."

Donald Trump's Angry Reaction

The clip reportedly prompt a heated response from the previous commander-in-chief.

On Thursday morning, Trump wrote on Truth Social: "This represents SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these turncoats to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate publication, he stated: "This is really bad, and Risky to our United States. Their words cannot be allowed to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a subsequent message, he stated: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also shared a declaration that read: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Democratic Representatives Respond

Following Trump's remarks on Thursday, Democratic leadership released a unified declaration denouncing the remarks.

"Partisan aggression has no position in the United States," they wrote. "Congress members who appeared in the video all acted our nation with exceptional national pride and distinction. We unequivocally censure Donald Trump's offensive and dangerous death threats against elected officials, and call on House Republicans to vigorously do the same."

The opposition officials also mentioned that they had been in touch with protective services "to ensure the safety of these representatives and their families."

"Donald Trump must without delay delete these radical social media posts and withdraw his aggressive discourse before he causes harm," the statement added.

Representatives' Strong Response

The lawmakers who were featured in the video also issued a declaration.

"We are former service members and national security professionals who love this nation and swore an oath to protect and defend the constitution of the United States," they stated. "This commitment continues forever, and we intend to maintain it. No intimidation, pressure, or promotion of aggression will stop us from that fundamental responsibility."

"The most revealing aspect is that the president views it punishable by execution for us to reiterate the legal requirements," they added. "Armed forces members should understand that we have their support as they carry out their oath to the founding principles and responsibility to adhere to only lawful orders. It is not only the proper thing to do, but also our duty."

They stated: "Every American must join forces and denounce the president's requests for our death and ideological conflict. This is a period for principled stance."

Further Governmental Responses

The Democratic Senate minority leader also denounced Trump's remarks and shared on social media: "Let's be crystal clear: the President of the United States is requesting the death of public representatives."

He stated: "This constitutes an outright THREAT. All senators, all representatives, the entire nation – irrespective of political affiliation – should condemn this without delay and unconditionally."

The Conservative official defended Trump's assertion that the Democrats had engaged in "rebellion", describing the video as "highly unsuitable", stating: "This represents very risky, you have leading members of the government instructing military personnel to ignore directives, I think that represents historic in American history."

The Republican leader also reportedly told journalists that in what he read of Trump's publications, Trump was "explaining the offense of sedition" but that "legal experts have to analyze the wording and determine all that."

Executive Branch Reaction

During a executive branch meeting on Thursday afternoon, when asked by a reporter, "Does the president want to execute members of Congress?", the executive branch representative answered: "No."

"Let's be clear about what the president is responding to," the spokesperson said. "There are current representatives of the American legislature who worked together to arrange a recorded statement to individuals of the US military, to active duty service members encouraging them to ignore the executive's proper directives."

She stated: "The purity of our armed forces rests on the command structure, and if that chain of command is violated, it can lead to fatalities, it can cause confusion, and precisely what these elected officials ... are essentially promoting."
