Ex- Physician Charged with Assault Charges Involving Thirty-Eight Patients

Legal authorities report that a former physician stands accused of carrying out assaults involving thirty-eight victims who were under his care.

The Serious Allegations

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with numerous sexual offences – comprising some against children younger than 13 – between 2017 and 2021.

One senior prosecutor said, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to support a detailed and complex investigation, carefully reviewing the evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

The Police Inquiry

The charges come after what police described as a “detailed inquiry” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.

The defendant will appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on January 20th.

Breakdown of Charges

Prosecutors outline the forty-five sexual offences include:

  • 15 counts of sexual assault.
  • Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
  • Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.

Authorities have asked anyone with concerns to get in touch with the investigating team.
