Information Available Regarding the Victims of the Bondi Terrorist Incident

No fewer than 16 lives were killed and in excess of 40 were wounded when attackers fired on a Hanukkah gathering at Bondi Beach, an incident Australian authorities are describing as a act of terrorism.

As of the newest reports, authorities have announced the death toll stands at 16, encompassing one of the suspected gunmen. Furthermore, 42 injured people were transported to hospital.

Those who died are still awaiting publicly named, but police believe their ages range from 10 and 87 years old.

Listed are the individuals who have been identified so far.

Eli Schlanger

London-born rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first victim to be named.

Reportedly a father-of-five, he served as the assistant rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Relatives and friends remembered him as ā€œvivacious, energetic, full of life and a very kind and sociable person who was dedicated to assisting othersā€.

ā€œHow can a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, meet his end in this way?ā€ a relative remarked.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the birth of their newest son in October.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, as stated by his wife.

She described the events before the attack, explaining they were standing when the shooting started. ā€œHe moved to protect me because he wished to be near me,ā€ she recalled.

The husband and wife were both survivors of the Holocaust, having experienced unspeakable terror in their childhood. They had later immigrated to Australia from Eastern Europe.

Dan Elkayam

French authorities have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is among the victims.

Publicly, the Foreign Minister expressed that France mourned with his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

ā€œThis cowardly attack is a new, tragic manifestation of a disgusting rise of antisemitic hatred that we must eradicate,ā€ the message read.

One Child

A young girl, aged 10 who was taken to the Sydney Children’s Hospital succumbed to her injuries, police have confirmed.

One Israeli Citizen

A national of Israel was also killed during the attack, as per reports citing the Israeli government.

Those Injured

Of the 42 people transported to hospital, a significant number remain under care, with five in critical condition. Those hurt include two police officers who attended the scene.

A wounded man is a bystander who rushed to the scene to confront one of the attackers. Hailed as a local hero, he sustained bullet wounds but is recovering well in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a public affairs professional. Reports indicate he was hurt and is receiving treatment in hospital.

Communicating, he described the scene as an ā€œutter carnage,ā€ but also praised the actions of those who came to assist. He stated he felt it was a ā€œstroke of luckā€ he survived.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was another casualty in the attack. He described he listened to ā€œa large numberā€ of gunshots.

ā€œInitially, I believed it was something less lethal, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,ā€ he explained. ā€œI’ve been shot myself. I received first aid. I’m ok.ā€
