Iran Claims Assault on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.

Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Manama, as the country executed operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area in the area of the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any damage is unclear and the US has yet to issue a statement.

Airspace Engagements

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - reported they have intercepted missiles in their air space.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was striking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck sites associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the Iranian people to revolt against the regime.

Regional Fallout

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the missiles with notable success and destroyed a several projectiles," it added.

It said debris landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
