Fresh particulars have surfaced concerning the tragic demises of acclaimed director Rob Reiner and visual artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose remains were discovered at their Brentwood, Los Angeles residence on Sunday.
As detailed in an account referencing a confidential source, a therapist arriving for an appointment was the first to notice something was wrong after not being able to enter the home. The practitioner then reached out to the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who resides in the vicinity.
After gaining access to the home, Romy found her father's body. It is said she then left the home distraught, unaware at that moment that her mother's body was there as well. A companion who had accompanied her promptly called 911. Subsequently, first responders located Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Authorities have formally accused the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of premeditated murder, including the alleged use of a deadly weapon, reportedly a knife. He is currently in custody without bail.
The confidential informant also disputed several previously reported details. It was stated that while Romy Reiner informed emergency responders that her brother Nick resided in a separate structure on the property, she did not name him as a potential suspect at that moment.
Additionally pushed back against circulated suggestions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been particularly "concerned" about Nick's actions in recent weeks. The source claimed the family was "familiar with working through [Nick's] problems together."
The statement includes descriptions of alleged "unpredictable" conduct by Nick at a gathering hosted by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the discovery. While the source stated they were not in a position to confirm whether Rob had "rebuked" his son at the party, they said that suggestions of a "blow-up" between the two were untrue.
As stated by law enforcement sources, the medical examiner had still not confirmed as of Tuesday whether the Reiners died Saturday night or on Sunday. Some accounts suggested the condition of their bodies implied they had been dead for a period of time.
Nick Reiner was taken into custody at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the neighbourhood of Exposition Park, some 15 miles from the scene. He was set to be arraigned on Tuesday, but his lawyer, Alan Jackson, said his client had not received medical clearance and would not be present until Wednesday at the earliest.
