The Red Devils Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major uplift to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
