The skiing legend Optimistic of Being 'in prime form' for the upcoming Winter Olympics

Legendary skier Lindsey Vonn states she will be "perfectly prepared" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, following securing a top-three finish for the fourth time in her last five World Cup events.

The 41-year-old, who achieved a milestone by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This represented her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup podium finish.

Strong Return in the French Alps

Competing at the iconic venue for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn finished the course in a time of 1:20.60. She was just over a third of a second behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking the runner-up spot.

"I was slightly lacking the right line on the first jump," the skier commented. "From that point on, I skied well. I'm pleased with my performance today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative."

This result was her second podium at Val d'Isere during the event, having also claimed bronze in the downhill on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Injury

Vonn officially retired in February 2019 as a result of ongoing knee problems. However, she returned to racing in December 2024 after a partial knee replacement.

With less than two months remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are scheduled for February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's performances are timely.

She already possesses an Olympic gold and two bronze medals from previous Games and is strongly positioned to represent the United States at the next Olympics.

"When we get to Cortina, I will be fully ready," Vonn affirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

In addition to her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four World Cup titles she has accumulated over a professional journey spanning 20 years.

She presently enjoys a substantial lead at the summit of the downhill World Cup rankings and is ranked fifth in the overall super-G standings.

This current World Cup circuit features a nine more events taking place before the season finals in Norway on 21 March 2026.
